One rugged band and one elegant band… each with its own individual style of faceting, filed by hand on a hand forged platinum wedding band.

The smaller band has been carefully faceted with an eye toward elegance. With a width of 2mm and a thickness ranging from 1.5mm to 1.75mm, this ring is perfect for stacking.

The larger of the two bands starts out as a classic half round wedding band, which is then faceted by hand. Each ring is a one-of-a-kind, with random faceting that results in an organic, chiseled effect. The pictured band was crafted from hand-milled stock that is 6mm wide and 2mm thick, and it is finished with a comfort fit profile.

We decided to take pictures of these bands while the platinum was still in its “raw” form so that the nature of the facets would be evident. With a satin finish, the texturing is starker, still maintaining an elegant soft quality due to the brushed surface. With a polished finish, light flows over the bands and shifts, never landing in any particular place. All three options (raw, satin, and polished) result in an outstanding aesthetic, each unique in its own way.

Your rings will be made from scratch: Dan will pour an ingot of platinum, hard roll it, and finish it to your preference. Because the metal is cold worked, hand forged bands like this one are denser and stronger than bands that are cast.

Platinum has an extremely high melting point (3236 degrees F), so working with raw platinum requires a big torch, dark glasses, and lots of fire. We use an alloy that is 95% platinum and 5% ruthenium.
